Ben True, a North Yarmouth native now running professionally, won the USA Running Circuit national championship today with a second-place finish in the USA 10-mile championship in Minneapolis.

Entering the final event of the year-long 10-race series, True held a 48-47 lead in points over Aaron Braun of Flagstaff, Ariz. True placed second today, 2 seconds behind the winning time of 46 minutes, 46 seconds of Mohamed Trafeh of Duarte, Calif.

Braun was eighth, meaning True won the season-long series 60-50 over Braun with Trafeh (45) finishing third. The title earned True a $6,000 bonus on top of his $7,500 runner-up prize money from today’s race.

Earlier this year, True won national titles at 5 and 10 kilometers and was second at 15k. His total prize money for the year is $34,100.

“The road races are a lot of fun and they pay quite well and the’yre fun to be a part of,” True said this summer. “But the focus and the emphasis is definitely on the track.”
