A Spruce Head man was flown by LifeFlight helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland after he crashed his motorcycle on Route 73 in Thomaston around 2:10 p.m. Thursday.

Wayne Fowles, 59, was riding south on Route 73 when he went off the road and lost control in a patch of gravel, said Knox County Sheriff’s  Chief Deputy Timothy K. Carroll in a statement. Fowles was thrown from his 1997 Harley Davidson when it hit a culvert.

He was flown by helicopter to Portland with serious injuries. The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
