A 29-year-old woman died Sunday night when she lost control of her pickup truck and struck a tree in Springvale, police there said.

Police and firefighters responded to the crash about 7:43 p.m. on Oak Street, where they found a Chevy 1500 pickup off the road.

The driver, Aurora Smith of South Berwick, was declared dead at the scene.

Police said Smith was traveling east on Oak Street near the intersection Hanson Ridge Road in the Springvale section of Sanford. The vehicle left the roadway, flipped onto its side and then collided with a tree, police said.

Investigators determined that speed was a contributing factor to the crash. The accident remains under investigation.
