A Levant man was killed Saturday morning when his minivan overturned in the median of Interstate 95 in the Penobscot County town of Howland, according to Maine State Police.

Steve McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a statement Sunday that Alex Malone, 22, died after being thrown from his Chrysler Town & Country van.

The crash took place around 5 a.m. Saturday. Malone was not wearing a seat belt.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation by the state police.
