A Penobscot County man has been arrested and charged with murder in the shooting death of his live-in girlfriend, Maine State Police said Tuesday evening.

Dwight Osgood Jr., 37, of Clifton was taken to the Penobscot County Jail following his arrest at the state police barracks in Bangor about 4 p.m., according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.

Osgood’s girlfriend, Kary Dill, 35, was found shot to death Monday morning at the home the two shared at 311 Airline Road in Clifton, McCausland said. The couple had lived together for about four years.

An autopsy on Dill’s body began Monday at the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta, McCausland said earlier Tuesday.

He said Osgood will make his first court appearance at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Bangor.
