JAY — The Maine Center for Disease Control & Prevention has notified town officials that a skunk found last week on Pineau Street tested positive for rabies.

Town Clerk Ronda Palmer said the skunk came in contact with a dog Aug. 19.

The skunk was sent to Augusta for testing and the results were sent to Jay on Friday.

Palmer said Animal Control Officer Larry Wright advised that the dog received a rabies booster.

As of Monday, there were no listings of confirmed rabies cases in Franklin County this year, according to the CDC’s website.
