DAMARISCOTTA — River Arts recenlty announced the opening of its first exhibition celebrating the theme: texture at the gallery, 36 Elm St.
For “Texture” submitting artists delved into the intricate interplay of tactile surfaces, exploring the sensation and visual allure of texture in its myriad of forms. The artists applied actual texture or implied visual texture in their submissions. They interpreted and expressed their ideas in innovative and thought-provoking ways.

Of the 107 Maine artists submitting a total of 162 works for this competitive show, juror Jaap Helder selected 74 pieces from 63 artists to be included.
The exhibiting artists captured their personal interpretations of the theme culminating in a stunning display of work. Helder says, “I am impressed with the level of creativity, the quality of the work and the courage of all the submitting artists,” according to a news release from the gallery.

The public is invited to an opening reception set for 2-4 p.m. Saturday, April 13. Many of the contributing artists will be in the gallery to celebrate this spicy and visually tactile show. Light refreshments will be provided for this afternoon of conversation and art. “Texture” will run through Saturday, May 18.
Regular gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m Tuesday-Saturday.
