DAMARISCOTTA — “New Perspectives on Caregivers and Caregiving Across Generations” will be the focus of the Inn Along the Way’s second Summer 2024 Community Conversations as the topic relates to contemporary challenges facing communities.

This interactive panel discussion is set for 3 p.m. Sunday, July 28, in the Long Barn at the IAW’s Chapman Farm, 741 Main St.

Caregiving is an important public health issue that affects the quality of life for millions of individuals. Few think much about caregivers, formal and informal, or caregiving until someone in their family needs it. Then people are usually caught unaware, not knowing where to turn for information or assistance. A multifaceted approach is necessary and must involve creating a team within the family plus interactions at all levels of the community, government, as well as individuals, private and charitable organizations, according to a news release from Marianne Pinkham, IAW Challenging Conversations Planning Committee.

Addressing these evolving issues involving caregivers and caregiving will be the following panelists:

Work Force: Laura Fortman, Maine’s commissioner of labor

Advocacy: Brenda Gallant, executive director, Maine Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program

Experiential: Susan Winters, retired nurse educator, hospice and palliative care nurse.
