Two separate articles which appeared in the Morning Sentinel on July 13 and 17 addressed the issues regarding the Lake George Regional Park board of directors. It has become “A Tale of Two Boards.” Dickens’ novel “A Tale of Two Cities” addresses the dispute between the aristocracy and the common people. This tale takes on the dispute of the legality of which board, old or new, is to be recognized. Not to mention, the board continuing with business as usual in making plans for creating an elaborate recreational area for those who can afford such venues.

Since the appointment of the “new” board members in March, there had been a rescinding of the appointments until the town lawyer could address the issue. He determined that rescinding the appointments was not following due process since it was done without cause. Meantime, the lawyer for Lake George told them not to allow new board members to be seated. It’s a matter of determining which supersedes the other, the municipal bylaws or the LGRP Corp. bylaws.

For at least three years the town has attempted to discuss concerns with the board but to no avail. The board has moved a great distance away from the original vision created by Bill and Louise Townsend, not to mention Nancy Warren and Bob Hubbard. These are the people with the vision for a park not a recreational area.

According to the board’s lawyer, “They are not interested in a political discussion of how the town of Canaan conducts itself. So, they’re hoping the town will sort out what it needs to.”

The town has done so. The LGRP Corp. doesn’t like the town’s direction. It does not fit well with their agenda.

So, we continue to have “A Tale of Two Boards.”
