The focus of her talk will be on the Maine Peregrine Falcon Program. One of the world’s fastest birds, by the 1960s Peregrine Falcons were gone from the eastern United States because of the effects of pesticides including DDT. With persistent recovery efforts, they are now on the rebound and regularly seen in many coastal areas and cities including Lewiston, according to a news release from Jeri Maurer with the bird club.

Call’s career has taken her to a number of areas in the U.S. working on projects related to Ruffed Grouse in Michigan, Wild Turkey dispersal in the Kansas Flint Hills, Bobwhite Quail ecology in Missouri and wading bird population monitoring in the Everglades. She now leads Maine’s statewide monitoring and research efforts, not only focused on Peregrine Falcons but also Golden Eagles, American Kestrels, Bald Eagles, Osprey and various species of Owls.

Social time will start at 2 p.m. with Call’s talk at 2:30 p.m. The public is welcome. The meeting is free of charge. To register, contact the Stanton Bird Club at 888-363-0007 or [email protected].
