The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association is set to hold workshops on fruit tree care — its annual Organic Orcharding Workshop Series — at locations throughout Maine in March and April.
In this series of beginner-level workshops, participants can learn different skills relevant to growing fruit trees at home or in their communities.
The series will include three different classes: Workshops on fruit tree pruning will be held in Bethel, Blue Hill, Patten and Unity on Saturday, March 8; restoring old fruit trees will be held in Freeport, Hope and Milton Mills on Saturday, March 22; and bench grafting — the process of grafting fruit tree Scionwood, or clippings, onto rootstock to produce a new tree — will be held in Bethel on Saturday, April 19.
There will also be a Pruning Berry Bushes workshop on Saturday, March 29; the Seed Swap and Scion Exchange on Sunday, March 30; and classes in the association’s Gardening in Climate Change webinar series.
