It seems to me that Sen. Susan Collins is in a unique position.
As chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, she has the power to hold a hearing to determine if funds authorized by Congress are being spent as intended. She could require Elon Musk to come before the committee, testify under oath and explain what DOGE (the Department of Government Efficiency) has been accomplishing.
Sen. Collins’ mission, should she choose to accept it, is to shine a light on the truth, protect Congress’ “power of the purse” and support the rule of law.
I hope this does not prove to be her “Mission Impossible.”
