I very much enjoyed the April 24 article about the long, successful career of Bob McCully as the Falmouth High tennis coach. What a great history of dedication to young athletes covering 53 years.
Up here in the Bangor area, we remember Bob in the early 1960s as the high-scoring center on the Jacks Five semi-pro basketball team. Bob joined a collection of well-known Maine basketball stars put together as a team by my father, Jack Cashman. Skip Chappelle, Jack Scott, Larry Shiner and Don Sturgeon joined Bob on the starting five of a team that was New England’s premier semi-pro team for several years. Bob McCully was a strong rebounder and defender around the basket to complement his impressive scoring ability.
Great to see he went from one successful career to another.
