WATERVILLE — Seven different players scored as Colby held off NESCAC rival Wesleyan 7-6 in an NCAA Division III women’s lacrosse quarterfinal Sunday at Bill Alfond Field to reach the Final Four for the first time in program history.

Colby (17-3) will three-time defending national champion Middlebury (19-1), another NESCAC foe, in the semifinals at 4 p.m. on Friday in Salem, Virginia. The Panthers topped the Mules 12-11 in the teams’ lone regular-season meeting April 5.

NESCAC champion Tufts will face Gettysburg in Friday’s other semifinal at 7 p.m.

Colby burst out to a 3-1 first-quarter lead on goals by Stella Regan, Kins Helmer and Avery Del Col and led 5-2 at halftime after Zoey Verbesey and Ainsley Dion scored. Charlotte Michener and Gennie Littlejohn added goals to give the hosts a 7-3 lead in the fourth quarter before Wesleyan stormed back on goals by Dylan Green, Sam DeLeo and Mya Waryas, whose goal with 43 seconds left closed the deficit to 7-6 before Colby held on.

Colby goalkeeper Jillian Kane made six saves.

Green and Waryas finished with two goals apiece for Wesleyan, which defeated Colby 9-8 in the Mules’ season opener April 1. Izzy Weintraub made six saves in goal.
