Geraldine Goranson
GARDINER – Geraldine (Rossignol) Goranson, 87, of Gardiner, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025, at Maine General Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Caribou, on Nov. 17, 1937, Geraldine was the daughter of the late Wilford Rossignol and Alvina (Fisher) Rossignol. She was raised on the family farm in Saint Agatha alongside her siblings and graduated from Caribou High School in 1955.
Geraldine, also known by close friends as “Geri,” was predeceased by her beloved husband, Arnold Goranson, with whom she shared 66 years of marriage. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, and family, raising three children: Stephen, Sharon, and Jeffrey.
A devoted homemaker for many years, Geraldine later worked for various organizations, including the Kennebec Journal, Gardiner Area Schools, and Togus VA Hospital. In 1970, she and her family moved to the Gardiner area, where she remained a cherished part of the community.
Geraldine had a strong and abiding faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. After moving to Gardiner, she became a dedicated member of Winter Street Baptist Church. She was a passionate Red Sox fan and found great joy in watching sports -especially when her grandchildren were on the field or court. She loved cooking, gardening, and fishing in her earlier years. Later in life, she was committed to staying strong and active, often working out at KV Health Club, where she enjoyed strength training under the guidance of her daughter.
She and Arnold created many treasured memories traveling, including winters in Florida and a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Alaska to visit her nephews Glen and Graydon Sodergren and their families.
She is survived by her children: Stephen Goranson and husband Steven Chandler, Sharon Roy and husband Colin, and Jeffrey Goranson and wife Catherine (Mahaney); her four adored grandchildren and their spouses: Kristoffer Goranson and wife Alicia, Kristina Marcotte and husband Zak, Erik Goranson, and Hillary Goranson; and four beloved great-grandchildren: Connor and Cameron Goranson, and Avery and Atlas Marcotte.
Geraldine is also survived by her sister Joanna Hamilton and brother Danny Rossignol; sister-in-law Lucille Rossignol; daughter-in-law Marianne Larsen Goranson; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Arnold; her sister Geneva; and her brother Richard.
A private graveside service will be held in the family plot at Forest Hill Cemetery in Dresden. Per Geraldine’s wishes, there will be no visiting hours.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Maine General Medical Center for their compassionate care, and to Dr. Carlen Smith for her loving support and ongoing follow-up throughout the years.
Arrangements are in the care of Plummer Funeral Home, 16 Pleasant St., Augusta. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family by visiting http://www.plummerfh.com.
