Windham (17-2) vs. Edward Little (13-6), 4 p.m.

Windham accomplished its season-long objective, avenging a loss in last year’s regional final by taking down defending champion Cheverus. Now the Eagles have to avoid an emotional letdown against the Red Eddies, the seventh seed in the North, in order to win their second title in three years. … Windham is deep, starting with the battery of Kennedy Kimball (0.46 ERA, 132 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings) and catcher Stella Jarvais (.534 average, 1.222 OPS). Kimball also batted .375 with three home runs. … Leadoff hitter Addie Caiazzo (.500 average) and cleanup hitter Oakley McLeod (.456) are also potent threats atop the lineup, and first baseman Yani Kostopoulos and third baseman Chloe Edwards are power bats in the bottom half. As good as the Eagles are offensively, however, they’re even harder to score against, thanks to Kimball’s pitching and a defense that won’t beat itself. … Edward Little went 10-3 after a 3-3 start, and all three defeats came by just one run. EL proved its second-half surge was for real by taking down No. 2 Oxford Hills, No. 3 Brewer and No. 1 Bangor in the North tournament. … Elizabeth Galway (.385), Emily Poulin (.300), Lexi Kelsea (.385), Kylee Lebrun (.455) and Lauren Bolduc (.364) are all batting .300 or above for the playoffs. EL also has plenty of team speed, which will test Jarvais, the SMAA Defensive Player of the Year, behind the plate. The Achilles heel for the Eddies could be defense, however, as seven of the nine runs they’ve given up in the postseason have been unearned. Miscues Saturday could prove too much to overcome against an opportunistic Windham team.

Medomak Valley (16-3) vs. Hermon (17-2), 4 p.m.

Two teams with separate approaches meet in the state championship. Medomak Valley is a team with a bona-fide ace, while Hermon has ridden a pitching committee to a successful season. … The right arm powering the Panthers belongs to sophomore Sidney Nicholls, who has fanned 208 batters in 102 innings this season while posting a 0.27 ERA and holding opposing hitters to a .075 batting average. She’s reached another level in the playoffs, tossing two shutouts and allowing no earned runs while whiffing 43 batters in 21 innings. … Catcher Arianna Sproul is the big bat in the lineup, sporting a .552 average with 11 extra-base hits, while center fielder Kytana Williamson (.404 average), second baseman Grace Townsend (.362) and first baseman Claudia Feeley (.326, team-high 24 RBI) are also productive hitters in the heart of the order. Another hitter, Jennika Schumann, played sparingly during the season but has started each playoff game and gone 5 for 11. … The Hawks, meanwhile, have rotated their starters, with Braelynn Wilcox (45 innings, 72 strikeouts, 0.93 ERA) and Mikelle Verrill (47 innings, 75 strikeouts, 1.04 ERA) getting most of the work. Verrill got the start against MDI in the semifinals, pitching five scoreless innings, while Wilcox took Old Town in the final and struck out 12 in seven innings. … Both teams are looking to end droughts. Hermon’s last title came in 2014, while Medomak hasn’t won since taking the Class A title in 1995.

CLASS C
At Saint Joseph’s College, Standish
Hall-Dale (17-2) vs. Bucksport (18-1), 12:30 p.m.

The Bulldogs are in the state final for the fifth straight year, and looking for their fifth straight championship, but this season has taken on a different feel. All but one player is in a different position than last year, but Hall-Dale won its final three games of the regular season before continuing its roll in the C South tournament and setting up another matchup with Bucksport, which lost to the Bulldogs in this game the past two years. … Torie Tibbetts (38 hits, .585 average) and Jade Graham (.483 average, seven doubles over the last 10 games) have been the heaviest hitters, while Lucy Gray has pitched every inning for the Bulldogs and compiled a 1.20 ERA with 157 punchouts in 122 2/3 innings. … Hall-Dale will have to solve Bucksport ace Natalie Simpson, who has struck out 205 batters in 107 innings with a 0.20 ERA. She has a potent offense behind her, as she, Lexi Raymond, Emma Clement, Jetta Shook and freshman Addison Harvey are all batting over .400. … In last year’s game, Hall-Dale trailed 3-2 entering the seventh before rallying with four runs off Simpson for a 6-3 victory.

Buckfield (18-1) vs. Penobscot Valley (17-0), 12:30 p.m.

After ousting two-time champion North Yarmouth Academy, the Bucks will seek their 10th state title but first since 2008, while the Howlers will look to avenge their last defeat, which came to the Panthers in the state final last season. … Buckfield proved its caliber by splitting a pair of contests with Class B South contender Leavitt, but needed some weather fortune to get past NYA. The Bucks trailed 3-1 Tuesday before rain forced the game to be replayed the next day, then used a four-run fourth to break a 1-1 tie and take the lead for good in the makeup. … Carmen Crockett has been the ace for the Bucks, with a 0.88 ERA and 178 strikeouts in 88 innings, while leading the team with 28 hits and a .509 average. Chloee Bennett (.459, 28 hits) and Cora Brewster (.458, 27 hits) have also enjoyed big seasons at the plate for Buckfield, which is batting .389 with a .525 on-base percentage as a team. … Tasked with shutting down the Bucks will be Lauren Veino, who is 13-0 with a 0.58 ERA and 158 strikeouts in 73 innings. She also holds a .553 batting average, good for the team lead ahead of Ellie Austin (.522, team-high 25 RBI).
