Defense wins championships, they say. But another way to win championships is to maintain offensive possession so long that you rarely need to even play defense. That was Windham’s winning formula in its 12-9 victory over previously unbeaten Kennebunk in the Class A title game.

The Eagles played the lacrosse version of make-it-take-it to dominate possession, especially in the first few quarters to win their program’s first state title. They also moved up two spots from last week to the top spot in the Varsity Maine girls lacrosse poll.

Class B champion Freeport is still second, but this week is tied with Kennebunk, though the Falcons did receive two more first-place votes than last week. Maranacook/Winthrop, which claimed the Class C title, went from a tie for ninth to a tie for eighth.

The final 2025 Varsity Maine girls lacrosse poll, as voted on by Varsity Maine staff, with first-place votes in parentheses, followed by total points.
