A Glenburn man died Wednesday after the dump truck he was driving was hit by a tractor-trailer that ran a stop sign, police said.
Maine State Police say a preliminary investigation shows a tractor-trailer traveling north on Lapoint Road in Stetson failed to stop at the intersection with Merrill Road and hit a dump truck.
The impact caused the fully loaded tractor-trailer to hit a utility pole, which fell on top of the truck. The dump truck, which was also fully loaded, tipped over and came to rest on its passenger side.
The dump truck driver, 64-year-old Scott Webber of Glenburn, died while being taken to the hospital, police said. The driver of the tractor-trailer was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center with serious injuries.
The crash was reported just after 1 p.m. Wednesday. The road was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash and crews cleared the scene.
