Pauline Mae “Polly” Tobey

SOUTH CHINA – Pauline Mae “Polly” Tobey of South China, Maine, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2025, at age 98.

Born Oct. 21, 1926, in Augusta, she was a lifelong resident of South China, worked 25 years at the Augusta Post Office, while also part-time in Palermo. Known for her sharp wit and trademark silver bracelets, Polly lived life with independence, often spotted cruising to her favorite diners or her weekly hair appointment in her white Buick.

Polly enjoyed winters in Florida with her husband, Elwood “Jack” Tobey, and later her sister, Theresa. She was predeceased by her husband Jack, brother Donald, and great-great-grandson Tucker. She is survived by her son Donald and wife Marcia; her sister Theresa; grandson Harris and wife Melanie, grandson Corey and wife Cheryl; and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

A celebration of Polly’s life will be held at her home in South China on Sunday, August 3, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
