A 23-year-old man from Athens was taken via LifeFlight of Maine to a hospital after he was attacked by a bull on Tuesday night.

The Athens Volunteer Fire Department responded to a residence at 249 Fox Hill Road in Athens around 8:30 p.m., Fire chief Travis Thompson said. They found a man with an injury to his inner thigh from the bull’s horn and injuries to his ribs.

Redington-Fairview Emergency Medical Services helped the fire department and brought the man to the Skowhegan hospital, where LifeFlight of Maine picked him up.

It’s unclear how or why the bull attacked the man, but the bull was secure in the farm’s pasture when officials arrived, Thompson said.

A male bull can weigh between 1,200 and 1,600 pounds on average.
