The driver of a van that crashed on Interstate 95 in Sidney on Thursday, causing injuries to him and two passengers, faces charges of operating under the influence, endangering the welfare of a child, reckless conduct and aggravated driving to endanger.

Shawn Stone, 28, of Presque Isle, was issued a summons after the crash, which occurred around 8:30 a.m. Thursday at mile marker 118 southbound, according to a news release from Maine State Police spokeswoman Shannon Moss.

Moss said troopers responded to multiple complaints of a white van traveling at a high rate of speed and being driven erratically. Shortly afterward, the van crashed into a guardrail and rolled over, she said.

All three occupants were taken to hospitals for medical evaluation, Moss said. Stone, the driver, and a juvenile were taken to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta and treated for minor injuries and later released, she said.

“A third occupant sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by LifeFlight of Maine to Maine Medical Center in Portland,” she said.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash, Moss said.

The crash backed up southbound traffic, causing delays for motorists.
