Election integrity has justifiably become an ongoing concern in our great nation. America deserves better! Several aspects of our system cry out for improvement: for instance, the chain of custody for mail-in ballots, updating of voter registration lists and verifying the citizenship of voters, to name a few.

The aforementioned safeguards will hopefully be implemented. However, this will realistically take continued time and effort. But the good news is that we each have the opportunity to improve things soon. We can vote for Maine to join the 36 other states that require voter ID. Since the Legislature failed to act, concerned citizens have assured the people, via referendum, the power to vote to require voter ID in Maine.

I urge all of my fellow Mainers to get to the polls on Nov. 4 and vote “Yes” for voter ID.
