I see value in a union into one country. The United States could access Canada’s vast resources and Canadians could access U.S. markets. But, parts of Canada joining the U.S. is not the right approach.
Canada is the pragmatic democracy that the U.S. has always yearned to be. United States freedoms are not actually protected. President Trump is stomping on equal voting rights for non-whites, freedom of the press and due process freedoms.
Canadians have so many things to lose — mostly free medical care and abortion for starters.
Regarding Maine Sen. Joe Martin’s Second Amendment argument, one-quarter of Canadian households legally have guns. The U.S. has the best-armed crazy people in the history of the planet. The Second Amendment does not make U.S. children safer.
Canadians have security. Canada can defend itself. Canada has never lost a war. And, even Martin’s potential Canadian supporters recognize this unfair treatment: Puerto Rico has awaited statehood for 127 years.
Sen. Martin’s pushing for four new MAGA states is funny — gerrymandering on a per-state basis.
