Donald Treworgy Mason

AUGUSTA – Donald Treworgy Mason, 94, passed away peacefully to his heavenly home on August 28, 2025, at his home at Stroudwater Lodge in Westbrook, Maine, with his daughters by his side.

Don was born in Ellsworth, Maine on Dec. 22, 1930, youngest son of the late Philip Sr. and Ruth Treworgy Mason. He graduated from Ellsworth High School, where he excelled at basketball, football, baseball, and track, in 1949.

A proud Navy veteran, Don served on the USS Valley Forge during the Korean conflict from 1951-1955. Following his Navy service, he was employed by New England Telephone where he worked as a lineman and retired 33 years later as a central office technician.

In 1958, he married the love of his life, Jean Marilyn Partridge. They settled in Augusta, Maine where they raised their two daughters, and lived until Jean’s passing in 2020. They had celebrated 62 years of marriage, spending several months each winter in Nokomis, Fla. during their retirement years. Don treasured his wife and missed her deeply after her death. He moved to Westbrook in his later years to be closer to his daughters and several dear friends.

Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, known affectionately as Guppie. He created countless special memories for his family. He loved the outdoors and taking his family camping, boating, and water skiing. He was a talented craftsman and artist; skilled at painting, woodworking, wood carving, stained glass, furniture upholstering, chair caning, and vegetable gardening. The homes of his family and friends contain his special works of art, for which he will be fondly remembered.

Don and Jean were long time members at Penney Memorial Baptist Church, where in his earlier years Don had served as a trustee, head usher, and coach of the youth basketball team. He volunteered for many years with the Talking Books program, repairing equipment for use by people with vision loss.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Jean, his parents, brother Philip Jr. and his wife Evelyn, and sister Hope and her husband John Linnehan.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by daughters Julie Ryan and Lisa and husband Henry Burke; grandchildren Benjamin Ryan, Eric Ryan, and their father Steven Ryan; grandchildren Rachel Burke Larson, Hannah Burke McQuade, and Mason Burke; great-grandchildren Elliot and Margot McQuade; and many extended family members and friends.

The family plans to honor Don’s wishes to have his remains buried with his wife Jean’s on their wedding anniversary, August 10, at Woodbine Cemetery in Ellsworth. They look forward to celebrating his life in August of 2026.

They would like to thank Compassus hospice, as well as the wonderful staff at Stroudwater Lodge for their compassionate care and kindness to him and the family during his years residing there.
