There is some chatter that Gov. Janet Mills may compete against Sen. Susan Collins for her seat in the U.S. Senate.
What will be the reaction of the young people in our state when they are faced with a 78-year-old competing with a 72-year-old for a six-year term for one of the highest offices in the country?
Likely it will reinforce their view that the world is run by geezers for geezers (I’m one) with no consideration for the young.
I’m second to none in my respect for Gov. Mills. Were she to decline to run, she could rally young people to get out and work for their candidates. As someone who has been shocked by the political disinterest of the young, her call to action could act as rocket fuel in energizing young activists.
