Even before the Lewiston tragedy, people in my community told me they were deeply concerned about the seemingly endless mass shootings in our country. I encourage everyone who wants to take a positive step toward curbing the epidemic of gun violence to vote “Yes” this November on Question 2.
Question 2 would create an Extreme Risk Protection Order law in Maine, enabling families and members of law enforcement to go directly to a judge when they know someone with access to weapons is in crisis and is threatening to harm themselves or others.
This proposed law respects the rights of gun owners and carries strict penalties for anyone filing a false report to undermine those rights. More than 20 states have an ERPO law on the books and they’re working well to reduce gun violence.
Please vote “Yes” on Question 2 to help keep our Maine communities safe.
Rep. Matthew Beck
House District 122 (part of South Portland)
