In response to the Sept. 9 op-ed regarding prostate cancer, “Prostate cancer numbers have increased. Are you vulnerable?,” I would like to mention that one of the many factors that should be considered is exposure to Agent Orange and other defoliants used during the Vietnam war.

The Veterans Administration (VA) has determined that anyone who served on the ground in Vietnam or was exposed to these chemicals on ships offshore and develops prostate cancer will be eligible to receive compensation. It is presumed that such exposure caused the cancer. Vietnam veterans who are diagnosed with prostate cancer should contact the VA and file a claim.
