Learning more about the idea of blue states uniting to support each other, if they were to financially secede from the federal government, has been fascinating. A so-called “soft secession.”
Canada annexing Maine for its 11th province was definitely an attractive idea, albeit remote, after the 2024 election. But I was recently reminded that blue states have typically carried the red states when it comes to federal tax revenue sent to Washington; the wealthier states tend to be blue.
If the current administration continues on its path of destruction of all things American: separation of church and state, our Constitution, the Bill of Rights, public education, women’s rights, a free press and civil rights, to name a few, let’s hope blue states seriously look at this idea.
There are so many Americans who want to live in the country that our founders fought for and created in 1776. As for the citizens who still believe in MAGA, let them live on in their denial and distortions in red states, if that’s what makes them happy.
