The headline above the fold on Aug. 29, “Collins extremely alarmed at firing of CDC director,” should be the clarion’s call for every Maine voter, as well as every American. It is not unreasonable for we, the lowly electorate, to expect that our seasoned politicians, especially one with more than 30 years experience, have a grasp on the political intentions of those which they have oversight responsibilities.

What in Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s past writings or speeches would indicate that he was a person of any moral turpitude or character? Did she really believe his lies, under oath? Could Sen. Collins really not see this coming?

The senator’s position that, with a change of administration, the new president should be able to choose “his people,” is foolish, inane and a malpractice perpetrated on America. Has the senator really forgotten what happened on Jan. 6, 2021? Was she not listening during the campaign when he, and his people, outlined exactly what they would do if reelected? She should have insisted that the president nominate serious professionals, not just “yes” people who will stroke his fragile ego.

We need elected officials who will place country over party, and right now, Sen. Collins has demonstrated, for far too long, that she is the consummate party girl. Nov. 3, 2026, cannot come soon enough.
