A blustery winter storm is expected to leave 2 to 3 inches of snow along the southern coast and 5 to 6 inches in the Belfast, Rockland and Bangor areas before it moves out Sunday night.

The National Weather Service in Gray said areas west of Interstate Route 95 can expect an inch or two of snow and possibly more in the mountains.

The big factor will be winds that could reach 35 to 50 mph in the Portland area, reducing visibility.
At 8:30 a.m. Sunday the storm was south of Nantucket and was moving toward Nova Scotia.

“This is just going to brush us,” said Margaret Curtis, a meteorologist.

The snow should stop in the Portland area by dark but strong winds are expected through midnight, Curtis said.

Sunday night will be cold, with temperatures near zero in the north and 10 degrees in the south.
Monday will be sunny with highs near 30.

The next storm could shape up for Tuesday night into Wednesday, Curtis said.
