ALBION — An Albion man died last week following a crash on Unity Road that was caused when he had an apparent medical event, a law enforcement official said Tuesday.

Michael Gauthier, 68, was in a 2011 Nissan Versa on Friday when it went straight off the road and into a Central Maine Power Co. pole, Lt. Chris Read of the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash occurred near the Cookson Road and was reported shortly after 1 p.m. Friday, according to Read.

“There was no one in the car but him,” Read said in an email. “He was pronounced deceased at the scene. No other vehicles involved.”
