Michèle Benoit Dion

AUGUSTA – It is with heavy hearts that we share the unexpected passing of our sister, Michèle Benoit Dion, 72, on Feb. 28, 2025. She was born in Lewiston to Robert Ovila and Jeannette Benoit Dion, and most recently resided in Augusta.

After graduating from Lewiston High School, Michèle completed studies at Portland School of Art and cultivated her love of painting. She worked as a graphic designer before starting her career as an investigator with the Maine Human Rights Commission.

Michèle had a passion for writing and worked diligently to produce several novels, not yet published. She belonged to a book group that met weekly, was a keen photographer and worked for community events. She had a talent for moving through life while finding beauty in the most ordinary places.

Family gatherings found Michèle smiling and chatting with everyone present. She had a larger-than-life laugh and was quick to make sly and witty comments to get others to join in on the laughter. The beach was her favorite place to be as she found solace in the calming nature of those surroundings.

She leaves behind four sisters, Joanne Dion and husband Tom, Claudette Dion Agren and husband Douglas, Ann Marie Payne and husband Dwight, and Deborah Dion Simon and husband Bryan; as well as many nieces, nephews; and dear friends.

She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Robert O. Dion Jr.

To honor Michèle’s last requests there will be no service at the burial site.

Arrangements and guidance are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1 Church St., Augusta.

Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared with the family on the obituary page of the Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home website http://www.khrfuneralhomes.com
