A West Gardiner man died Monday while fishing on the West Outlet of the Kennebec River, near Rockwood in Somerset County, according to the Maine Warden Service.
Daniel Robideau, 51, was fishing around 9 a.m. when he fell off a rock into the current, the Warden Service said. Robideau was unable to get to shore and his fishing partner was not able to save him due to the strong current.
A dive team recovered Robideau’s body around 1 p.m. Monday in approximately 7 feet of water, the Warden Service said.
The West Outlet is one of two outlets that flow from Moosehead Lake to Indian Pond. Robideau was fishing in Taunton & Raynham Academy Grant township, an unorganized territory just south of Rockwood, according to the Warden Service.
