I believe that we need voter ID in our state. We need to show identification for any bank transaction, to obtain a driver’s license, for travel, and sometimes even to get an account at a local water district. Why wouldn’t we want to have identification as a normal part of voting — this most important civic activity?
Thirty-six other states already require voter ID, and it is working well in those states. Let’s strengthen Maine’s elections with voter ID.
Another concern of mine is the need for absentee ballot reform. Currently anyone can call for an absentee ballot with no record. There needs to be a paper trail for absentee ballot requests. Sending out absentee ballots automatically to people seems like a very bad idea, as people can change addresses or, sadly, pass away.
Please vote “Yes” on Question 1 on Nov. 4.
