The first indication that “Chopsticks” is significantly more than just a novel is its trailer, which encourages readers to watch, listen, feel, look, discover, view and imagine. All of those activities are not only encouraged but enabled in this ambitious and hefty tome that works as a sort of interactive scrapbook. An exercise in multimedia storytelling, “Chopsticks” is a book, but it’s also an iPhone and iPad app peppered with videos, songs and instant messages that bring the story to life in a way that isn’t possible with words alone.

Streep takes on ‘The Iron Lady’

In the opening scenes of “The Iron Lady” the young Margaret Thatcher, played by Alexandra Roach, is a guest at a dinner. Right out of the box she begins to annoy the men with her pushy young-fem insistence on being taken seriously. The women simply touch their lips and wonder how she got to the table. When dinner is over, she is directed to retire with the ladies to the drawing room, while the men smoke cigars and discuss the issues of the day.

It’s man against the elements in ‘THE GREY’

After reviewing some very fine, blue plate special Oscar worthy films: “Descendants,'” “The Help,” ” The Artist,” I felt ravenous for a good cheeseburger with fries movie. I needed to see people run, things blown up, etc. So I walked into Joe Carnahan’s (“A-Team”) new epic “The Grey,” expecting all of the above with extra onions. While I didn’t get filet mignon, I was very surprised at what I was given.
