New Hallowell calendar released by local photographer Nancy McGinnis
Photographer Nancy McGinnis has been capturing images of Hallowell since she and her family arrived here 25 years ago. But it was only earlier this month that she chose some of the best of those, including scenes past and present from her personal archives, and incorporated them into a limited edition 2012 calendar.

TRAVELIN’ MAINE(RS): Could anything be fine-ah than eating at the China Dine-ah?
The China Dine-ah will surprise you. It’s a lot more than a diner, from food to atmosphere. And it’s a true reflection of owner Norm Elvin, who modeled some of the restaurant on his Palermo camp, and who puts his personal stamp on every aspect from service (excellent) to the menu (huge) to the restrooms (immaculate). And the food is exceptional. Who would have thought that the longtime owner of G&E Roofing would become a foodie!

AUDITION
Gaslight Theater auditions for “Circle Mirror Transformation” by Annie Baker. Auditions will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27 Wednesday, Dec. 28 at Hallowell City Hall. The show will be directed by Richard Bostwick, assisted by Deb Howard. Production dates are March 2, 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10. The show has three women and two men. Ages are one high-school looking female, a male and female who are former hippie types, and a male and female between the two ages. The auditions will consist of primarily cold readings.

Castlebay to perform tonight
In 1987, the Celtic quartet Castlebay released their first vinyl album. They worked as a foursome for about two years and then as a trio for another three years or so. During the last year, multi-instrumentalist Fred Gosbee and harpist Julia Lane worked as a duo. A lot of water has gone under the bridge for these talented singer-songwriter-interpreters including 27 recordings, concerts around the world and their desire to educate and entertain audiences with the music and lore of all things Celtic in nature.
