The Oak Hill and Winthrop/Monmouth football teams spent part of this week trying to downplay the significance of their Saturday showdown in Wales.

When high school football coaches in Maine began using game film as a coaching tool, it wasn’t easy. Former Lawrence High School coach Pete Cooper remembered how it started in central Maine in the late 1960s. Area coaches would drop their 16 millimeter game film off at the Fairfield home of Dick McGee, the head coach at Colby College. A courier on his way from Boston to Orono to pick up the University of Maine’s film would stop in Fairfield, pick up the local film, and bring it to Boston, where it was developed.

The Cony football team received a wake-up call when it lost to Brunswick 54-38 in a Pine Tree Conference Class B game Friday night at Crimmins Field.

Quarterback Parker Asselin was on target Saturday, completing all seven passes he threw for 173 yards and a touchdown as Oak Hill cruised past Maranacook 38-0 in a Western D Campbell Conference game Saturday afternoon.

Dylan Hapworth and Zach Guptill combined for 330 yards rushing and six touchdowns on 45 carries for Winslow, as the Black Raiders grinded out a 49-18 win over the Trojans. Winslow improved to 3-0, while MDI is 2-1.

BRUNSWICK — Brunswick used its relentless ground game to score on seven of its eight possession Friday night to become the Pine Tree Conference Class A’s lone unbeaten team.
