The volunteer department was ordered to stand down after officials determined that some firefighting gear had not been replaced in the past decade and was out of date.

Selectmen say they recently learned that the jackets, pants, helmets and boots worn by volunteer firefighters are more than 10 years old and therefore do not meet national standards.
